Awesome ending! And really excellent explanations. Thanks rep'nA. In a way, I am using your puzzle to try to discover new techniques. Cool, I'm a muse! In that case, can you see anything nice on this one? 12124852309338698705074148936462771915771767030662506598623921435244101916898366249307054957458...

I'm not sure yet, but very nice work on getting the last few steps. I especially like your improvisation with the [09],[99] psedo-hidden pair and your almost non-unique square.

Ruud, Here is an idea. I just learned this game when I downloaded it this weekend, but I've already learned that spotting locked sets can be tedious. I've taken to writing down a table which tells me which digit combinations a given number sees. For example: .-------------------------------. | 0 0 1...

All, Maybe a simple puzzle, Level 0-3, but there are no hints available from this point. I am sure that there must be a solution, but perhaps the techniques needed haven't been incorporated into the hint system as of yet. Just curious though, shouldn't the program only generate puzzles that can be ...

Here is a little history that I wrote up for Keith on a different forum I'll try to give you the history as I know it. The first recorded use of a w-wing that I know of is John Macleod in Jan. 2006, who called it the Corkscrew Rule: http://www.sudoku.org.uk/cgi-bin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=29&post=27...

How do you decide (working with pencil and paper) which candidate to look for a swordfish for, or do you try them all until you find one or eliminate all possibility of a swordfish? The downside of the approach (especially if you're working on paper) is that you might have to write down all of thes...

Semi-remote naked pairs

Hi Ruud, My recent solving experience has suggested that the pattern I call semi-remote naked pair (first reported (AFAIK) by John MacLeod and called the corkscrew rule , then posted by Stephen as an example of a y-wing style , and others have called it a w-wing) is a terribly useful and common patt...

rep'na, Thank you so much, I never saw it quite this way before. this seems much easier for me. Pete You're welcome, Pete! Two extra comments: 1) There is a version of this to catch (basic) finned fish (but it gets impractical for the ultimate fish, if you know what those are). 2) One can also use ...

nrc(z)(t)-chains

I love that you've added nrc(z)(t) to SudoCue. However, the most general form of them is something that probably needs to worked up to. Any chance you could include the "starter" versions as well, namely xyt-chains, xy(z)t-chains and their (super)hidden counterparts the hxy(z)(t)-chains?

Let me try a somewhat unconventional way of explaining Swordfish. First, since you understand x-wing, lets look at an example: .---------------------.---------------------.---------------------. | 1678 167 4 | 178 178 9 | 3 5 2 | | 18 3 2 | 4 6 5 | 7 18 9 | | 9 157 578* | 12378- 12378- 138* | 6 18- ...

Re: filters/marks

Hi, I just downloaded Sudocue and i am testing some grids to see how it works. I just cannot find how to display filters AND marks at the same time.... in the daily lite interface, this is the default beahviour, and it is very usefull when looking at naked pairs for examples. Is it possible to acti...
