6 by 6 puzzle

Post by nj3h »

I came across one from a newspaper that for the time being has me stumped. I am probably missing something obvious. Anyway, the puzzle is:

..4 ..6
5.. ...

.4. .23
23. ...

... ..4
4.. 1..

The above spacing is to highlight where the 6 boxes are in the puzzle. Of course, row and column rules apply.

Any thoughts?

Tricky little puzzle.

A few locked candidates to start with,
then Empty Rectangle for digits 2 and 3,
then nothing...

...until you use higher powers. There are a lot of ALS in the grid.

Let's use some of them:

Code: Select all

(1)r2c3-(1=26)r12c2-(6=52)r6c26-(2=1)r2c6-(1)r2c3 => r2c3<>1
(5)r56c5-(5=12)r1c5|r2c6-(2=5)r6c6-(5)r56c5 => r56c5<>5
naked pair (36) in r56c5
After that, you could investigate r3c1.
