(Not the) Assassin 93

Post by mhparker »

Hi folks,

Fun as it is to speculate on Ruud's whereabouts and to envisage him pottering about in a gardening center near Boskoop :!: , there's no substitute for new material to fill in the gap...

Unofficial Assassin 93 (UA93) (Est. rating: 1.25)

Below is my walkthrough for UA93.

I did some heavy combo crunching in order to break this puzzle - I'm sure there must be a more elegant solution - but I haven't found it yet.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing other walkthroughs.

Thanks for this puzzle Mike!
I was glad to have it as I have been struggling with Maverick #4 (and may soon have to just take a peek at the posted walkthroughs).

Cheers,

Caida

Edited to correct a small typo - thanks Afmob!

Thanks Mike for providing a relaxing Killer. After all those 1.25 and 1.5+ Killers it was really fun to tackle an "Assassin" without spending all your brain power on it .

And it's also good to see that other members post their wts as well.

Edit: Fixed some typos and optimized endgame. Thanks Andrew! His hint helped me to make this my shortest wt so far (2nd best: A79).

9. Rest is singles.

Rating: 1.0. I didn't mark any key moves but I think using Innie-Outie-Difference you can avoid combo crunching and solve it without any problems.

Thanks for a fun puzzle Mike. :D The solution really flowed well with my only real work being to put steps in the right order to simplify my solving path.

Caida, Afmob and I also solved it by similar routes so there appears to be a fairly well defined although not narrow or difficult solving path. Having said that I think there were enough differences for me to also post my walkthrough.

I agree with Afmob's rating of 1.0.

Here is my walkthrough, which is my shortest one for a long time.

Sorry to be a bit heretical but I've actually enjoyed NOT doing an assassin for a couple of weeks. Now I feel a bit fresher and looking forward to future challenges whereas all those 1.25+ brutes were beginning to wear me down!!

Regards

Gary

P.S. Aside from Ruud, what's happened to Cathy and Para??

Don't know about Cathy (doesn't the poor girl get given lunch breaks any more?! :)), but I recently saw that Para is driving for a go-cart racing team this season :!: Makes a bit of a change from Sudoku! Maybe he'll be back sometime and tell us how it went.

Cathy had mentioned both on here and over at Djape that she would have less time to participate for a while. Same story here at present.

Keep up the good work everyone.

For a change I did this week's "mind bending" killer on killersudokuonline, number 114.Quite good fun..I'ld rate it as harder than the Times deadly ones but easier than any assassins,so about a 0.75.
the outies for nonet 6 plus possible combos for r37c8 together with the 45 cage -> r7c78={17} -> r9c34=27 enables a pretty quick solution
Not quite daytime hours Mike but, yes, another early posting from me.

Gary, please don't feel obliged to take a break just because Ruud is! As you can see, there have been plenty of puzzles from other forum members in recent times, and I can assure you that the supply is not going to dry up anytime soon!

Starting with the UA93, I'm also releasing some puzzles of traditional V1 standard, which should be more fun to solve for the majority of people (both registered and unregistered) visiting this forum.

BTW, even before Ruud's recent break, I was beginning to get concerned that the Assassins were generally becoming too difficult (probably as a result of unreleased enhancements to SumoCue). In particular, we weren't getting any 1.0-rated puzzles any more. Not only did this probably restrict their appeal to a narrower audience, but it also gave the rest of us less chance of creating a good V2. Indeed, I was even starting to consider producing "Lite" variants instead of V2s at times!
Cheers,
Mike
