Sumocue problem

Post by Alain Garnier »

Dear Ruud,

Thanks for the great website and programs. so far I have enjoyed the weekly assassin and jigsaw, have got familiar with the sumocue software and love it. I have a little problem when I try to design the nonets and cage for the texas jigsaw with Sumocue though. I can design the jigsaw nonets (9x9) but I can not choose the "Jigsaw nonets" option in the options menu, it stay inactive. No automatic detection of a jigsaw neither. The only thing I can see that I do differently from the instructions is that I design the nonets by using the left click and "shift" key. When I use the control key, i can not get to design the nonets correctly. What do I do I do wrong? Can you help me out?

Thanks a million! Alain

Thanks for your kind words.

You've found a little oversight I made. The detection of 9 cages of 9 (that triggers jigsaw mode activation) does not respond to shift+click cage drawing. Not your fault, but mine. :(

I will fix this in the next release, but in the meantime you can delete a single cell from the last cage and use control+arrow to reconnect it. That will trigger jigsaw mode.

cheers,

Ruud.

sudocue

sudocue is a bit overwhelming to me. many of the solving options are over my head. i usually enable the ones i understand then try to figure out which technique can get more candidates eliminated and try to figure that out.
This makes it a wonderful teaching/learning tool.

The only improvement I can think of for my Unique tastes would be a bit more detail in the hints or log files.

or perhaps even beter levels of hints
master
to progress further coloring or swordfish may help
expert
hidden singles exist
moderate
hidden single in box 5
learner
hidden single digit 3(s)
beginner
hidden single digit 3 in box 5

Have you tried the new (F7) "vague hint" feature, Pete?

For all techniques upto swordfish/jellyfish, the program gives a vague indication what to look for, or where to look, but does not give away all the details. For more advanced techniques, it only names the technique, without further details.

Ruud,

I have version 2.0.0.6
F7 brings up the anylazyer windo
so perhaps i better find the new 2.1 so i may have the new F7

but the anylizer window is very interesting
after 24 hidden singles and a full house and 2 locked candidates
i get a xyz wing i probably wont find with all hints
then the empty rectangle
then its all singles and full houses
