Slightly off-topic, but in that position, isn't there a much more direct implication loop to set r5c1=8 based on conjugates pairs - X-chain or Simple Colouring? r5c1<>8 -> r7c1=8 -> r8c2<>8 -> r8c5=8 -> r7c4<>8 -> r6c4=8 -> r6c2<>8 -> r5c1=8 deduction is therefore that r5c1 must be 8 Nice alternati...

Hi SirDave This example is a sashimi x-wing/skyscraper on 8's. It's kinda obscured because of the ALS's, but when you check only the 8's you can make the same elimination. I don't know if you tend to use sashimi x-wing/skyscraper but it is an easier way to view this elimination. greetings Para Than...

I really think that ALSes have been neglected and along with Myth's AICs, both of which are ripe for just this sort of attention. The only other in-depth discussions of AL...

Morgan, you're right about Ruud. He has the ability to cut thru the academic drivel and cut to the chase in a manner that's easy to understand. Perhaps he is too humble to have given you this reference (or maybe the poor guy just forgot :D ), but the fact is that Ruud resurrected Sue-de-Coq recently...

I think this is a great idea. First of all, the grids earlier in the week will be good for practice in recognizing patterns and second, it's nice to have fairly difficult Sudokus that don't necessarily require the most 'extreme' solving methods- leave that to Sunday when we will be ready for the wor...
