There is a direct link between candidates 1 & 9 in r9c3..9 through combinations in the 10(2) & 12(3) cages (={19} or {129} respectively) . In other words, 9 is linked with 1 in these two cages -> if r9c12 has 1 it must also have 9 -> {158/167} blocked from 14(3) since 1 can only be in r9c2....

No one is too busy to show up at their own website once in three months for a proper goodbye. I agree completely. The annoying thing is that Ruud has obviously set the "Enable account activation" forum administration option to "Admin", meaning that user accounts are initially cr...

Official Unofficial Assassin 100

Hi folks, Well, we made it! 100 Assassins notched up. Bring on the fireworks! To celebrate in style, this Assassin is a bit tougher than usual. Your creativity is called for. (Unofficial) Assassin 100 (UA100) (Est. rating : 1.5) http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t116/mhparker_2007/UA100.png 3x3::k:...

Where are we moving to? The url link is http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/ but URL is not working just at the moment. I've already mentioned this problem in a post on the new forum. If the above URL doesn't work, just try http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/index.php instead. Look for...

We should discuss when we are going to move, so that all users know that from this point on all major activity is going to be at Richard's site. My suggestion would be 2nd of May since this is a friday and the regular Assassin, in this case uA 101, would be posted (and hopefully solved ) on o...

This variant should give you a bit more trouble since it doesn't crumble after the first placements. Indeed! Took me over twice as long to get to all singles compared to the V1! A monster of a "1.25" rating if ever there was one! Felt like at least a 1.5 to me! Here's the (as yet unchecke...

Great post, Ed! I agree 100% on everything you mentioned. I have an idea for a new home http://www.rcbroughton.co.uk/sudoku/forum/ I think Richard Broughton would make a wonderful host for both the killer and overlapping/multiple grid forums. I agree, and have already signed up (as the fourth member...

This was a nice relaxing puzzle. Thanks for the warm-up, Afmob! My brain cells are now fit and ready for the next variant (unless it's one of those SScore 5.0+ ones, that is! ). I'll go along with Andrew's rating of 1.0 . Edit: Clean-up step corrected. Thanks, Andrew! UA99 Walkthrough Prelim...

I got the first email quickly, but cannot log in the other name. That first email has told me that I will get another email when the account is activated. I have not received that second email. As expected. Every time I've seen a post from a "New kid on the Grid" in the last few weeks, I'...

Based on these comments I have since been keeping an eye on the Number of Registered Users posted at the bottom of the main forum page. For a while it has been 262 registered users. Today it is 263. So new users seem to be able to join the forum: Maybe. But don't forget that joining the forums here...

Hi folks, V1 not enough of a challenge? If so, here's a variation that should get those brain cells ticking over a bit faster. May the magic of the Pharaohs assist you in your task: :farao: (Unofficial) Assassin 98 V2 (UA98V2) (Est. rating : 1.75) http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t116/mhparker_200...

Hi guys, No chance of beating Afmob these days (unless he's got an imminent math exams, that is :)), but here's my WT anyway. Unlike Afmob, I'll rate it as a middle-of-the-road 1.25, because I didn't use any "overkill" moves. Thanks for the enjoyable puzzle, Ed. :D If the time comes that w...

Just realized I hadn't checked the Assassin page puzzle before submitting this. Ruud's getting too reliable  Maybe we should start thinking about looking for a new home? Assuming Ruud is fit and well (which appears to be the case), he's obviously completely lost interest in doing anything furt...

If it did still need that chain, here's a way that looks simpler for step 4. Love this chain, Ed! Indeed, I think it's an example of a Grouped Turbot Fish , which is a specific type of AIC . Before discussing it in more detail below, I'd like to first of all present an example of a grouped turbot f...
