I doubt that it was Ruud. Unfortunately, this site still seems very neglected. It was probably a server problem at the ISP that they fixed.

Hi Amy, Have you tried changing your screen resolution? If I right click on the Windows desktop, click on properties, click on the settings tab and change the resolution to 1280 by 1024 pixels I can see the whole puzzle in one screen. I tried an even higher setting first, but my monitor went black w...

Spotted at last, the rare & elusive ”Blue finned swordfi

Anyone who regularly does Clueless Explosions, and frequents this forum, must be aware of what I like to call ”blue logic”. That is, solving techniques that depend on the fact that the blue squares in the white puzzles form an extra house. These techniques will not work for a normal sudoku puzzle or...

Bug in the new service release

There seems to be a bug in the routines to generate the RN and CN views. I seem to have far more candidates in RN space than in RC. Could it be that the program generates the candidates in RN and CN space from the digits already in place but ignores candidates that I have eliminated in RC space? I w...

Well I must say that I agree completely with Susan and Shoebear. Whenever I look at the statistics I first check my position and then usually look at how the different countries are doing. The average score is the only important number when comparing results. This discussion started out with a chall...

Please save it until tomorrow. I am still stuck in the Catch 22 puzzle and it would be nice to finish that first, instead of interrupting for the weekly explosion. And Poor Pete is probably right. There should be no countdown, so his program gets a chance to beat Nasty Nouggie’s for once. ...

Thank you Glyn for pointing out what I missed. I see them now and wonder how I could have missed them. It just shows I should be more thorough when searching for easy ways to eliminate candidates in these puzzles before resorting to techniques more typical of the Sunday Daily Nightmare. :twis...

Was Samurai number 19 much more difficult than usual or ...

Was Samurai number 19 much more difficult than usual or did I miss something obvious? At first it seemed easier than usual, and lots of numbers fell into place, but suddenly, I got stuck. I repeatedly went around all the puzzles searching for the usual suspects, XY-wings, hidden pairs, etc., but fou...

Hi Amy, If you are having problems restoring saved puzzles I think you may be using an old version of the Clueless Helper program. I downloaded a new release of the program on January 25 and found that I couldn’t restore saved puzzles. By the evening of January 26 Ruud had fixed the problem and ther...

Enable the Enter key to insert hidden singles and lone can..

I really liked the recent improvement to the Clueless Helper to make it insert the obvious number when I double click on a cell with only one candidate left, or when the highlighted number is the only one left in the house. It would be nice if you could make the Enter key work the same way. When usi...

Make the candidates easier to read.

When using the Markup or Colouring tools I find the candidates very hard to read. Could you please make them black and bold? This applies both to the SudoCue and Clueless Helper programs. I sometimes like to make printouts of particularly difficult puzzles to take with me on public transport or just...
