General approach to solving

Post by magician »

I have just picked up Andrew Stuarts book, and it is excellent, and I am up to ALS. Fantastic.

What I cant figure is how on earth I would actually find these in a puzzle on ym own, I am ok understanding them when they are in front of me highlighted but how are they spotted, and how do you know that you have exhausted certian other options so that ALS is te next option?

This seems to be the same with other techniques - singles, pairs, triples, x wing, y wings etc are easy to spot, but how do you know when aniother technique us necessary and how do you get to recognise this?
