Own pencil marks , .SDX files or "where is my work ?&qu

Post by kusudo#3 »

Sometimes I use to enter my own pencil marks and I've set SudoCue's options accordingly.
After entering some marks I confirm them eventually.
If I save my work as .sdx file and try to load the file later I get an empty grid.
What am I doing wrong ?

Hi Ruud,

I went to the options screen and set: start of game - all candidates disabled and markers visible at start of game.

When I use the pop-up menu, only possible candidates are highlighted. When I use the LED bar, I can only turn the possible candidates to green. This means it is then impossible to enter a wrong pencil mark. That being the case, there really isn't any need to being able to manually figure out the pencil marks, since everytime you go to the pop-up menu, they are figured out for you.

Is there a way that the program allows the entry of wrong pencil marks?

I agree with the previous message that discusses saving and opening the file. I entered a few pencil marks, saved the file, but nothing is loaded back - not the clues nor the pencil marks I manually added.

George

I have found the cause for this problem. The function that loads a puzzle from an sdx file assumes that pencilmarks are initially enabled, and only disables the missing marks. With the pencilmarks initially disabled, it should do the opposite.

Thanks for reporting this issue. It will be fixed in the coming release.

Hi Ruud,

I was able to use the LEDs to enter any (including invalid) pencil marks. However, the pop-up menu only lists the possibly valid pencil marks. In other words, the LEDs allow the player to do something with pencil marks that the pop-up menu doesn't.

I wonder with the "Automatically remove invalid candidates" box unchecked, shouldn't the pop-up menu allow all values 1-9 to be entered (even if they are invalid)?

The errors are fixed.

The .sdx save was not prepared to handle grids with candidates initially disabled, resulting in invalid files.

I've changed the save routine to include braces for each set of candidates, even when none are set. This solves the problem, but the earlier sdx files cannot be repaired.

LEDs and popup menu are now correctly synchronized.

I hope these were the last glitches for this version...

Hi Ruud,

Thanks for the quick changes and the new release.

However, a gremlin. I was entering pencil marks and went to save. The "save" and "save as" are grayed out.

Also: Puzzle generated, hit solve from here, hit reset, hit solve - nothing happens. Reset did not reset the puzzle so that the solve menu item works.
